Manmadhan Ambu for Christmas

Buzzes are that Udhayanidhi Stalin has changed his decision of releasing ‘Manmadhan Ambu’ from December 10. With Suriya’s ‘Rattha Sarithiram’ scheduled to hit screens on this Friday (December 3), the other releases are likely to be postponed. The second and third week of December will have bunch of medium-n-small budget movies hitting screens. Udhayanidhi Stalin has now plans of releasing Kamal Haasan’s ‘Manmadhan Ambu’ on December 24 for the occasion of Christmas. Since it will be a long holiday till the New Year, the producers believe that it can attract the family audiences to theatres. Needless to mention, the film is a romantic comedy from the team of Kamal Haasan-K.S. Ravikumar, which indeed is an additional value for the film. Moreover, the travelogue kind of film always gives a holiday like-feel for the audiences. Such factors should obviously make a successful for the film.

Shruti Haasan with Chief Minister's Grandson!

Shruti Haasan has bagged another plum project.

She is all set to romance Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is the grandson of Tamil Nadu chief minister, Karunanidhi and who is the son of the deputy CM, Stalin.

Incidentally Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is also a producer initially approached Nayanthara for the role. However she rejected the movie for various reason.

After scouting for other heroines like Trisha, Tamanna etc, he decided to settle for Shruti Haasan.

And Udhayanidhi Stalin reportedly asked Kamal Haasan before asking Shruti Haasan and she readily agreed to do the movie which also marks the debut of Udhayanidhi Stalin as hero.

Vijay Takes on Dhanush

Kaavalan’s release may be shifted to Pongal. The producer is contemplating on the Pongal release because Dhanush’s Aadukalam is also slated to hit the screens on the same day. It would be an apt competition, feel the makers of Kaavalan.

Just a couple of days ago, a dispute regarding the distribution rights of Kaavalan were amicably resolved by the parties concerned. The audio of this film will be released during the first week of December.

So can we expect a clash between Vijay and Dhanush this Pongal? Fans are sure to have a good time feasting on these two movies for the festival!

Garland of Slippers for Actor Arya

Actor Arya, who was drawn into bad light by FEFSI president V C Guhanathan after the controversial speech he delivered in a recent awards function, has found new adversaries. This time, it is the Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK).

The Hindu Makkal Katchi(HMK) has objected to the actor’s derogatory speech against Tamil cinema and people. They protested against Arya by placing a Garland of Slippers on the portrait of him. They also shouted slogans against Arya.

Recently in an award function at Sharjah organized by a Malayalam channel, actor Arya claimed that acting in Tamil was much easy and did not require any kind of hard work. But acting in Kerala cinema industry, requires hard work and a home work from an actor.

The HMK activitists have demanded Arya to seek apology. They also threatened to ban Arya’s upcoming films if he fails to apologize.

Anna Durai, the General secratry of HMK said, “Arya should apologize for his ‘irresponsible’ and ‘baseless’ speech about Tamil films and actors. Arya who earns Crores of rupees from Tamil film industry has delievered such derogatory speech about Tamil industry. If he fails to apologize, we will extend our protestion to ban his upcoming Tamil films

Call it publicity or moral policing, HMK has been finding easy preys in Kollywood. HMK recently gave a boycott call against veteran film-maker Ramgopal Varma’s recent film Rathacharithram because the lead actors Vivek Oberoi and Surya toured Sri Lanka for the film shoot, defying the diktat of the South Indian Film Artists’ Association.

Earlier, HMK, along with few other fringe Hindu outfits, had campaigned against actress Kushboo’s remarks on premarital sex, and Mallika Sherawat and Shriya Saran for their indecent attire in public functions.

Abbas is at it again. The actor, who hosted a star cricket match in Dubai five years ago, is now busy making arrangements for a new match, which will be held on December 2 at a popular cricket stadium in Dubai.

It will be a Twenty-20 cricket match between Kollywood and Tollywood, in which top young actors from both the south Indian film industries will wield the bat and ball.

Says a happy Abbas, “The match will be played in the IPL format and some leading cricketers will also be present. If it clicks, we have plans to conduct similar matches in Chennai and Hyderabad too.”

Abbas will captain the Kollywood cricket team which is expected to have Madhavan, ‘Jayam’ Ravi, Arya, Jeeva, Bharath, Santhanu, Jai, Vikranth, Nanda and Atharva. The Tollywood team led by Tarun will have Srikanth, Ravi Teja, Allari Naresh and Ayyappa among others.

RK ropes in Tollywood’s Madhurima for his next film

Industrialist-turned-hero RK, who has acted in a couple of films as hero in ‘Ellaam Avan Seyal’ and ‘Azhagarmalai’, is playing the lead role in ‘Pulivesham’, which is being directed by mercurial director P. Vasu. The film stars Sadaa, the actress with an hour-glass figure, opposite him and marks her entry into Tamil films after a long hiatus.

Meanwhile, RK has already moved ahead and finalized the heroine for his next film. RK has reportedly signed Madhurima, the hot and happening Telugu actress, who is one of the top actresses in Telugu along with Anushka & Ileana. The tall and picture-perfect Madhurima, as and when she makes her debut in Tamil films, could give a run for their money for the top actresses in Kollywood such as Trisha, Nayantara, etc.

RK would pair up opposite Madhurima in his next film titled ‘Kadamai Kanniyam Kattupadu’ to be directed by Shaji Kailash. The film is a remake of the popular Bollywood hit movie ‘Ab Tak Chappan’, which released a few years and starred the versatile Nana Patekar in the lead. The film based on the life of a popular ‘encounter specialist’ of the Mumbai police force.

RK had taken permission from ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Haasan, who produced a film of the same title in the early nineties starring Sathyaraj in the lead, to have title for his film. RK plays a cop in the film. With Madhurimaa opposite him, selling off the film to the distributors won’t be much of a problem, for sure.

Laila to make a comeback with Avan Ivan?

Actress Laila, who married and settled down in matrimony a few years back, is all set for a comeback through her mentor and director Bala’s upcoming film ‘Avan Ivan’ which stars Vishal & Aarya in the lead.

Bala’s earlier films ‘Nanda’ & ‘Pithamagan were significant ones in Laila’s career which didn’t have a large number of hit movies. Known more for her dimpled smile than for her acting credentials, Laila starred opposite almost all the leading heroes of her times except Vijay. She debuted opposite Vijayakanth almost a decade back in ‘Kallazhagar’.

Despite a mother of two children, she still has her waistline intact and hasn’t put on oodles of weight. Reports say that Bala got in touch with her and asked her to do a small role in ‘Avan Ivan’. Laila, who was said to be awaiting a chance for a comeback, reportedly agreed to Bala’s offer.

In keeping with his usual style, Bala has asked Laila not t commit herself to any other film before completing ‘Avan Ivan’. Laila, therefore, joins Suriya as the second ‘guest star’ in the film which has raised expectations about the film from the fans of all these stars!

Is Saranya safe?

Reacting to a complaint by her mother that she was missing from home, young actress Saranya of ‘Peranmai’ fame has said she has been staying with her friend following ‘misunderstanding’ with her mother.

On Monday, Manjula, a resident of Ganga Nagar First Main Road in Kodambakkam, lodged a complaint with the Chennai city Police Commissioner that her daughter Saranya had gone missing.

Manjula alleged in her complaint that Saranya, 22, had left home on the pretext of acting in a movie but had not returned. Though Manjula had been unwell for the last few weeks, Saranya never turned up to help her, she alleged.

Denying the allegations, the up and coming actress said, “there is no truth in my mother’s claim. I am very much in Chennai, busy acting in a film titled ‘Mazhaikaalam’. I left home since I had some problems with my mother.”

Vijay statue in Kerala

If you had thought Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay has fans who are mad after him only in Tamil Nadu please note that Kerala is giving a tough fight. Vijay has regular devoted fan clubs even in Kerala and they behave much siilar to TN fan clubs, making a Vijay film release the festival of the season.

Recently when ‘Kavalan’ shooting was going on near Ottapalam in Kerala, Vijay fans in the state pleasantly stunned everyone by erecting a robotic statue of the actor there. The statue was life like and electronically moved to the beats of Vijay songs perfectly.

Vijay who knew of his fan base in Kerala but never thought they would be so affectionate was overwhelmed to see the love his Kerala fans bestowed upon him.

Hansika slams reports on her relationship with Prabhu Deva

These days the media has slightly gone overbaord. It is okay is some rumors pop up if two well known celebrities spend some quality time with each other.

Around three weeks back, Hansika declared that Prabhu Deva is her brother and in fact he even calls her as ‘sister’.

But recently some reports popped up saying that Nayanthara is angry with Prabhu Deva since he is now in love with Hansika!

Common. Such news media needs some break.

Today Hansika slammed these reports while talking to a news media. “How can the people link a brother with his sisters” she wondered! “They need to be sent to psycho wards” she added.

She also talked on this issue on Twitter. “There some people are spreading rumours about me n prabhu sir! Why cannt thy get ryte that he is an elder brother to me ! N I’m lil sister to him! ‘Maravan’ in the making

A forthcoming film of Dhanush, which will bring together the actor with his director brother Selvaraghavan after a long break (‘Pudhupettai’ was their last venture), is taking shape without any buzz.

Titled ‘Maravan’, the movie has Andrea Jeremiah, who is one of the heroines of Selvaraghavan’s earlier venture ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’, as the female lead. “It is an action-based love story,” say sources.

Remember Selva started a film titled ‘Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam’ some time back with the same Dhanush and Andrea in the lead. However, the film had to be dropped for reasons unknown.

Confirming that Selva is busy with ‘Maravan’, Andrea says, “But I am not supposed to talk anything about the film. We have just returned from the shoot and we worked hard really.”

Kamal to Act in Ad Films to Help HIV Children

Commercial endorsements for consumer products were always a bitter pill for Kamal. Even though most his contemporaries would plunge into the first chance of making money through commercial endorsements the actor par excellence has always stayed away from those deeds.

But now we hear that Kamal Haasan has broken his resolution and will start accepting commercial deals for some big money. But hey guys don’t jump into conclusions. The great actor is going to do that for good causes.

Sources say Kamal will represent commercial product advertisements in future and make money only to donate all of them to AIDS control society. A great man thinks only great.

Sona Hopes for the Best

Sona Heiden is happy about the response her maiden production venture ‘Kanimozhi’ evoked in the box office on Friday, that is, the first day of its release. “I am hopeful about the forthcoming days too,” she says.

“The film created a lot of expectations right from the day one it went on floors. And it has now witnessed a very good opening. I feel great since this is my first film as a producer,” says the actress.

Directed by Sripathy Rangasami, a former associate of Venkat Prabhu, the movie has Jai, Vijay Vasanth and Shazahn Padamsee in lead roles.

“It is a beautiful love story told in a beautiful way,” Sona says. Adding more, she says, “I am thankful to T Siva of Amma Creations (the other producer) and each and every member of the cast and crew. It’s my dream to become a producer and it is a reality today.”

Vijay, Dhanush, Aarya on-screen for a particular ‘Special Song’

Leading actors Vijay, Dhanush, Aarya and four other artistes would be seen on-screen for a particular ‘special song’ in cinematographer-turned-director K.V Anand’s upcoming film ‘Ko’, which stars Jiiva & Karthika in the lead and has been in the making for quite some time now. The film’s shooting had been held in many European countries including Norway.

Vijay-Dhanush-Aarya

Anand, whose last film ‘Ayan’ starring Suriya & Tamannaah broke many box-office records, is planning to film a song for the film in which leading actors and actresses of the Tamil film industry might be seen. Sources close to the burly filmmaker say that he has been in touch with the stars he intends to rope in for a song in the film.

In Bollywood movies, songs featuring multiple stars isn’t a rarity. In superstar Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Naseeb’ which released in the mid-eighties, legends like Raj Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra and Shammi Kapoor featured in a song sequence. The same was the case with contemporary actress Deepika Padukone’s debut film ‘Om Shanti Om’ which released a couple of years back and had a song featuring the 70-plus Dharmendra, Hrithik Roshan, Govinda, Priyanka Chopra and Kajol Devgn.

Efforts were made in the past in Kollywood to bring together leading stars for a single song but in vain. The song that Anand has in mind is likely to feature Suriya, Vijay, Aarya, ‘Jeyam’ Ravi, Bharath, Dhanush and Jiiva, the hero of the film. Talks are reportedly going on between Anand and the concerned heroes and some heroines in Tamannaah, Shriya Saran

Is Prabhu Deva in love with Hansika Motwani?

Prabhu Deva began his career as choreographer and later on became an actor. Then he became an actor. Since he did not get offers, he became a director. So he had the formula of changing things in his profession. Now he is following the same formula in his personal life also.

He loved and married Ramalath and had three children through her. All of a sudden, he changed his mind and announced that he is going to marry Nayanthara. Before this heat could die, there is a shocking news that made Kollywood shudder.

The news is that romance has blossomed between Hansika Motwani and him. Prabhu Deva is directing the film Engeyum Kadhal which has Jayam Ravi and Hansika Motwani in the lead roles. Because of this there is a big clash between Nayanthara and Prabhu Deva.

It seems that Nayanthara has bombarded Prabhu Deva in a star hotel. Let’s wait and see that who Prabhu Deva is going to marry.

First Half 'Friends', Second ‘Sandaikozhi’

Filmmaker Ammu Ramesh’s debut directorial ‘Thambikkottai’ is complete now and the producers are planning to release their film by December. Vikram's 'Deiva Magan’ on Full Roll

Chiyaan Vikram doesn’t afford to take longer breaks between his projects now. Having dropped three projects on the row with ‘Yaavarum Nalam’ Vikram Kumar, Boopathy Pandian and Selvaraghavan each, he has finally started shooting for Vijay’s ‘Deiva Magan’… Reported to be inspired from Hollywood movie – I’m Sam; Vikram plays the role of a mentally challenged person. To look apt for the childish behavior, Vikram seems to have shaved his moustache. Anushka plays the role of lawyer in favor of him. Amala Paul aka Anaka of ‘Mynaa’ fame plays the role of Vikram’s deceased wife. Produced by Mohan Natarajan, major portions of the film will be shot in Ooty with few songs in huge sets of studios.

First things first, ‘Nandhalala’ is an exact aper of famous Japanese movie ‘Kikujiro’ (1999) directed by Takeshi Mitano. Mysskin has however exerted his influence through the delineation of new characterizations and screenplay. The film’s synopsis has nothing special to mark on with as it’s a road adventure.

It’s an adventure drama as two protagonists meeting various characters on mission of finding their dear mothers. Bhaskar Mani (Mysskin) a half-minded man escapes from the hospital for mentally challenged patients. At a point he comes across a small boy (Ashwath Ram) waiting at bus stop. Situations bring them together as they get on the pursuit of their mothers. The young boy has his mother’s photo and the duo travels to the place of finding her first. On their journey, they encounter some interesting moments and different characters that help them reach their destination. There are certain heart-touching sequences with a physically challenged person, a sex-worker (Snigtha), roadside travelers, a small girl and many others.

As mentioned earlier, Mysskin has neatly lifted the main plot of ‘Kikujiro’ and has embellished the screenplay with his creative conceptualization. The characterizations are one of the highlighting keys of ‘Nandhalala’ as even the minor roles have much prominence to do with the script. Most of the film goes with the visual significance, which may variably disinterest the frontbenchers. Mysskin seems to have adapted K. Balachandar’s techniques of visual relevance.

Snigtha’s performance level is extraordinary, but it’s Mysskin who steals the show with his overpowering acts. He seems to have taken more efforts into playing this role well.

Ashwath Ram is sure to fetch more laurels. Rohini doesn’t get a proper scope and many may not recognize for her different looks.

There are some interesting sequences like Mysskin trying to save Snigtha from the strangers who try to harm her. The ultimate twist in tale goes with the true colors of young boy’s mother revealed during the climax. Though this meaning is unclear during the post-intermission sequence, it is much depicted without any dialogues during climax portion. Mysskin should have ended the film with the same shot as the prolonged sequences are too amateurish.

The handicapped character’s portions are gripping and it’s one of the best sequences. Mysskin doesn’t directly point towards the concept of ‘Love’ between the characters, but conveys them through their natures. A Love portrayed in different way.

Mahesh Muthusamy can be regarded as one of the heroes as his cinematography has more significance. His ability to place shots at unique angles is the major plus. Well for the ordinary audiences, such creative abilities may not be accredited. Ilayaraja’s musical score is biggest assets of the film. Though the background score is quite bleaker in few portions, he enhances the emotions through his music during last 30minutes.

On the whole, ‘Nandhalala’ has more chances of performing well at box office if promoted well. With so many big tickets awaited in the forthcoming Fridays, the results can be predicted only after opening weekend. The film should have a good reception amongst ‘B’ centres.

What works: Performance by Mysskin, Ashwath, cinematography, Ilayaraja, first half…

What doesn’t work: Overdosed visual significance, prolonging shots, and sluggish moments in second half, dragging climax

Verdict: Mysskin’s yet another trademark
